Container Candle Care & Burn Guide

To enjoy a clean, safe and beautifully even burn, follow these simple care tips:

✨ While Unlit

-Due to the handmade nature of our candle containers, small air bubbles or slight imperfections may be present, adding to the natural charm and individuality of each piece.

-Keep your candle away from direct sunlight and heat sources to protect the wax and any decorative elements.

-Put the lid on after each use to protect the wax from dust. Keeping your candle covered helps maintain its cleanliness and preserves the fragrance between burns.

🕯️ First Burn Matters

-Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the container on the first burn. This creates a full melt pool, prevents tunnelling and sets your candle up for an even burn throughout its life.

🧼 Clean Remaining Wax

-Before each burn, gently clean away any wax clinging to the inner walls of the container.

-Removing this residue encourages an even melt pool and helps prevent tunnelling from developing further.

📏 Trim Your Wick

-Before each burn, trim the wick to about 0.5cm.

A properly trimmed wick helps maintain a steady flame, reduces soot, and prevents the flame from becoming too tall.

💡Top Tip - If you notice any flickering or a high flame, it could be a sign that the wick needs trimming. In this case, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool fully, trim the wick, and relight. Once trimmed, these issues should resolve.

⏳ Burn Time

-Burn your candle for no more than 3-4 hours at a time.

-Allow the wax to cool before relighting.

- Stop burning when 1cm of wax remains to protect the container and the surface beneath.

🏠 Burning Environment

-Keep lit candles away from drafts, open windows and anything flammable.

-Leave at least 10cm between burning candles.

-Always place your candles on a heatproof, level surface.

-Allow candle containers to cool before moving.

♻️ Reuse & Repurpose

Once your candle has finished, your Jesmonite container can be cleaned and repurposed - perfect for storing small items, holding tealights, or giving a second life as a decorative piece.

❄️ Wax Removal Tip

Similarly to our Jesmonite trays, when your candle is finished, place the container with any leftover wax in the freezer for about an hour. Once hardened, the wax should lift away cleanly, making it easy to wipe the container back to perfection.

⚠️ Safety First

-Never leave a burning candle unattended.

-Stop burning when 1cm of wax remains.

-Keep out of reach of children and pets.

-Keep the wax pool clear of matches and other debris.
